Program Development Timeline

Timeline for the program development and approval process will follow all steps required by the statute, including local authorization, public review, and approval by the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities. Follow the program’s progress with the table below.

  • April 29, 2019, residents of the own of Cohasset voted for Warrant Article 16, authorizing the Board of Selectmen and Town Manager to investigate and develop a Community Electricity program. The Town of Cohasset selected Good Energy as the consultant to assist in developing and managing the Program.

  • On December 4, 2019 to December 17, 2019, the aggregation documents were made available for public review. The aggregation documents continue to be available in the municipal offices for public review.

    On December 17, 2019, the Board of Selectmen approved the Aggregation Plan.

  • Following the public review process, the Town of Cohasset submitted the Aggregation Plan to the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources for consultation.

  • Following the approval by the Cohasset Board of Selectmen and the Department of Energy Resources, the Town submitted the Aggregation Plan to the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities (DPU) for approval. The Aggregation Plan was approved on October 5, 2022.

  • The Town of Cohasset executed a 21-month electricity supply agreement with Direct Energy. An extensive education and outreach campaign to make residents and businesses aware of the upcoming program launch and their choice to participate in the Program or leave before it starts (opt out) will begin in late January 2023. Participants can also opt out any time after the Program has begun without penalty or fee of any kind.
